Upgrade failure due to Log space

Hi,

 

I am facing an issue while trying to upgrade from 8.8 PL17 to 9.0 PL10. It simply crashes with the following log:

 

26/06/2014  02:05:42:130823       Upg                        Err                          FromVersion=880235     ToVersion=902002                table=AITM, qurStr=, errString=[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]The transaction log for database 'XXXXXXX'

is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases


Can an upgrade fail due to Transaction Log space unavailability?


Please clarify.
